    Breast Augmentation

A Woman’s breasts have always been a symbol of beauty and femininity. So it is no wonder that their shape, symmetry, and size significantly influence the psyche of women in regards to their own perceived appearance.

Augmentation improves the size and appearance of breasts by inserting silicone implants or implants filled with physiological solution. These implants can be inserted either above or beneath the pectoral muscle and thus achieve the desired cosmetic improvements.

Duration:

This procedure lasts approximately 2 hours. After surgery the patient remains in the post-operative care (one night) at the clinic.

Anesthesia:

This procedure is performed under general anesthesia, and the patient is completely put to sleep.

Hospitalization/Out-patient procedure:

Augmentation is an outpatient procedure. After several hours of observation, the patient can go home. However, the decision to leave the facility is based solely on the opinion of the doctor and the feelings of the patient.

Possible side effects:

Possible side effects may include, but are not limited to: temporary discomfort, moderate to medium swelling, sensitivity of nipples (more or less), and temporary bruises. Breasts may also become more sensitive to stimulation after several weeks.

Possible complications:

It may be necessary to remove and/or re-insert the implants due to some unforeseen complications that may include but are not limited to: bleeding and/or infection, deflation or rupture of the implant, or the creation of cicatricial tissue around the implant (capsular contractures) that can cause the breast to feel solid and unnatural. Other complications may include increased or reduced sensitivity of the nipples and/or the breasts skin. Any of these side effects may be infrequent or permanent.

Recovery:

Patients may go back to work within several days. However, they should avoid any physical contact to their breasts, and should wear only bras with the most support for about 4 to 6 weeks. Scars should fade out and get flat after 3 months to 2 years after the surgery, depending on an individual healing process, and the individual lifestyle of the patient.

Results:

The result is the overall enlargement and improved appearance of the breast. Any substantial change of the patient’s weight due to obesity or obesity treatment may change the outcome of the augmentation unfavourably. The enlargement and subsequent breast activity in connection with breast-feeding may unfavourably influence the breast shape achieved by the augmentation as well. That being said, it is possible to achieve long-term effects from the operation and desired outcomes can have different lengths of duration depending on the individual.
